Re: Starting a natural nest
I have mine in dirt in buckets. Each has different dirt. The one that is almost completely clay is probably the worst because the bottom will never dry out while the top is like concrete. My Good Ants are in dirt that has a lot more sand and is coarser. I think that the deeper your dirt, the coarser...

Re: My new 3D printed formicarium
They look perfect to me. I wonder where there is excess material, and if it would matter if it stayed on. And two for $35 sounds great.

Re: Heating Cable?
I looked two places over the last couple weeks and couldn't find a heating cable. I did find undertank heating mats for reptiles. If they are around then I will find them eventually I guess.

Re: Random SpeciesK Antkeeping Stuff
I walked around today hoping to find ants flying around or crawling around, so maybe I would find a Winter Ant queen. But didn't see any ants at all. I did find a place with a lot of what looks like ant hills, but none had openings, and I scraped into a few and although the dirt was the right textur...

They are living like royalty.
On your outworld, what do you use to prevent them climbing out? It looks like it's either just a piece of plastic with a hole in the middle, or maybe it's covered in vaseline or powder.

Re: My web browsers tells me to NOT use this website
Have you tried it for yourself? Just put https:// in front of whatever is in the location bar right now. That will force a secure connection to the site. It will work no matter what time your clock says anywhere in the world. I get exactly the same messages with Chrome, the site security certificate...

Re: Tetramorium caespitum In Texas
Hey, that's a good question, I kinda thought they were everywhere in the world now, but I guess no one actually told me that. I have seen what I think are pavement ants around here so I would think Texas would have lots of them. On the other hand, I thought my Good Ants were Tetramorium and suddenly...

Re: tetramorium journal
When the ants are born, are they dark, or are they light color and then darken later? I have watched videos of other ants that are born white or yellowish and then turn brown or black or whatever. It didn't occur to me before that ants would be born any color but what you see them as walking around.
