Re: Cale's Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony

How many eggs and lava does your queen have? maybe your workers will be replenished? I hope your colony succeeds. Basically full on colony collapse. I have one worker with two pupae. I managed to get her to move back into a test tube so we will see how they do in there with an attached test tube po...

I can't make this up...she caught another Camponotus in that frigging cactus. That makes 3 Camponotus and 1 Formica. https://i.imgur.com/2VF3dJa.jpg The second one she caught laid two eggs already. https://i.imgur.com/U0tvhCG.jpg The first one hasn't yet but the Formica has a nice little clutc...

Re: OH-KY-IN-IL-MI Nuptial Flight Sightings

I'm kind of ashamed right now that my girlfriend is having better luck than me at finding queens. She just found another Camponotus queen in her cactus pot this morning.

Re: Cale's Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony

Well I'm not sure what happened but I had several workers die this weekend. I'm down to 4 workers with my queen. She has two pupae currently. I would like them to move into a test tube as the nest is much too large for them now and they aren't doing a good job keeping it clean. I have a little bit o...

Re: OH-KY-IN-IL-MI Nuptial Flight Sightings

My girlfriend just caught a Camponotus digging a founding chamber in her cactus pot on our front steps this weekend. I had to teach her how to make a test tube setup and put it in my test tube rack in the basement because she's having better luck catching queens than I am. She's up to two this year ...

Re: 3D printed?

I don't believe the mesh is 3D printed. I bought some scratch and dent items that were not fully assembled and was sent a small sheet of the mesh to cut and glue to the items. It seemed to high quality to have been 3D printed and I don't think it would be very cost effective to 3D print that mesh ei...

Re: Crazy Idea!

I had thought about something similar for a colony that has alates. What I wanted to do was have a large outworld outside with a fluon barrier my ants couldn't cross to escape but the winged males and females could fly out of.

Re: What is a good camera?

If you are dead set on buying a camera there really isn't much difference between the big names these days. I use a Nikon D300 for all my underwater photography. I use Nikon because that's what I grew up using and it's what I'm used to. Canon is just as good with the only noticeable differences bein...

UPDATE- she has came out of hibernation about a month ago and has laid no eggs.
Give her time. My Camponotus pennsylvanicus took about two months to lay eggs after hibernation and even when she did there were not that many.
