Hunting grounds...
So, I love u guess you would say in a rural area, sorta in town but also have all kinds of trees around and plenty of places for ants to be lurking. My question is, to hunt for queens, is my typical area ok or would it be better to venture away a bit to the country side were it's less touched by hum...

Re: Tachinid Flies - the bane of my existence!
WOW! For some reason I m ew it had to be a fly of some sort. I have been a "bug nerd" since I was a kid but I gotta say, that's crazy you had that many infected. Nasty flies!!!

Re: Help with an already established colony
First off, if U put them in a tub, u will just leave them there pretty much. Cover the test tube and they will wonder and forage as they see fit and return to the test tube. With there being workers already that's what I would do. Or yes, a mini out world/test tube portal will work also. That's what...

Re: Cale's Camponotus pennsylvanicus colony
Looks like Tapinoma sessile ... What's crazy is I actually have a colony of these little ants :-). At the same time, I have problems with wild ones entering my house every year. It's nice to know that I need to keep an eye out just in case something like this happens to one of my other colonies. Whe...

Re: Camponotus subbarbatus Colony(s)
For some reason it's saying one of my photos isn't found so I'm going to try and repost it. It's actually the better of the two picks in the previous post. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d8/KoreyLee18/20170418_193035_zpsksbbci4e.jpg Her brood pile has grown some since this picture was taken also ...

Re: Camponotus subbarbatus Colony(s)
:-) They are doing great! I have actually just finished them an out world last night. I have counted at least 8 pupae right now and once they start eclosing I will give them their new out world. It should be the perfect size for as many workers as there will be. I'm hoping to have at least 25 or mor...

Re: Cormac's Campontous Pennsulvancus diary 1
You said they are of the same colony...how can you be so sure? If you got them out of their nest b4 flying then odds are they aren't fertile. Yes they will still lay eggs but they will only be males.
